Moz Local and BrightLocal get compared constantly because they overlap in the middle and diverge at the edges. Moz Local is a listings distribution product with reputation and reporting around it. BrightLocal is an agency toolkit — citation building, local rank tracking, audits and a reputation module — assembled from separate tools.
The right answer depends less on feature counts than on what you spend your week doing: syncing business data across directories, or reporting on local visibility and working on Google itself. Below is an honest read of both, compiled from each vendor's own documentation.
your priority is keeping name, address, phone and hours consistent across a wide directory network with duplicate suppression, and you want that handled with minimal ongoing effort.
you are an agency that needs citation building, local search audits, rank tracking and white-label client reporting in one place, and you are comfortable assembling the modules you need.
your real bottleneck is Google itself — profile fields, posts, photos, reviews, protection from third-party edits and geo-grid rank evidence — rather than directory syndication.
Moz Local's centre of gravity is data distribution. You maintain one record and it propagates, which is genuinely valuable for businesses whose listings have drifted over years.

BrightLocal is built for people who report to clients. Its strength is breadth of local SEO tooling rather than any single automation.
Compiled from BrightLocal features, Reputation Manager, Active Sync and API documentation , reviewed August 2026.
Compiled from each vendor's own public documentation. Where a vendor charges separately for a capability we mark it as a paid add-on, and where we could not substantiate it from their own material we mark it "not documented publicly" rather than claiming it is missing. GBPly is included for context — it is our product, so weigh that column accordingly.

Moz Local is priced per location in tiers, and the higher tiers add social posting and ranking features. Longer commitments are common, so check the billing terms on the plan you are quoted rather than the headline monthly figure.
BrightLocal is a tiered subscription with a location and report allowance, and several capabilities — notably syncing data to Google and approving third-party edits through Active Sync, and review campaigns through Reputation Manager — are charged as add-ons on top. Two agencies on the same nominal plan can pay very different amounts.
Neither is expensive at one location. The gap opens at ten or more, where add-on stacking on BrightLocal and per-location tiers on Moz Local pull in different directions. Price the exact modules you will actually use, not the entry tier.
Both tools were designed in an era when citation consistency was the main lever in local search. It still matters, but for most businesses the profile itself now decides the outcome — categories and attributes, service areas, fresh posts and photos, review volume and replies, and whether anyone notices when Google or a member of the public changes your data.
GBPly does that one job thoroughly: field-level editing through the official Google Business Profile API, Profile Guard diffs with one-click revert on third-party edits, AI posts and review replies grounded in a crawl of your own website with a policy check before publishing, review requests by email, SMS and QR code, and geo-grid rank tracking with Rank Replay animated history you can export as a GIF for reports.
Agencies get workspaces, team roles, an unbranded white-label client portal for approvals and photo collection, and the option to send email and SMS through their own providers. It is not a citation tool — if directory syndication is your requirement, keep one of the two above and use GBPly alongside it.
