    FAQ Knowledge Base

Build a Google Business Profile FAQ Knowledge Base

Google Business Profiles no longer have a public questions and answers feature, and Google's API can no longer read or post profile Q&A. What still works is maintaining your own FAQ set and publishing it — as Google Business Profile posts and as structured content on your website.

What Changed, and What Replaced It

    What public Q&A was

For several years a Business Profile carried an "Ask a question" section. Anyone could post a question, and anyone — the business, a customer, or a passing stranger — could answer it. Owners were advised to seed it with their own questions so the visible answers were accurate.

    What is gone

That consumer surface is no longer present on the profiles we manage, and the Business Profile API has no supported endpoint for reading or writing profile Q&A. In practice that means no tool can manage on-profile questions and answers any more — not GBPly, and not anyone claiming otherwise.

Why you still see Q&A in Google's own documentation

Google has not published a formal retirement notice. Older Maps help pages and legacy developer reference material still describe place Q&A, while current Business Profile support guidance and Product Expert answers treat it as phased out. We describe the position as observed rather than announced: no API access, and no Q&A surface on managed profiles.

    Where those answers belong now

The questions customers ask have not changed — only the place you publish the answers. Keep one approved answer per question and publish it where you own it: as Google Business Profile posts, as FAQ content and structured data on your own website, and as the script your staff work from. That content is also what AI and conversational local-search surfaces can read about your business.

Why a Maintained FAQ Set Still Matters

The native Q&A feature is gone, but the questions haven't changed. A maintained FAQ set gives you an approved answer to every common question, in the words your customers actually use, ready to publish wherever they're looking.

    GBPly recommendation

Adds Useful Content to Your Profile

Every Q&A pair adds detail about what you offer in your customers' own language, ready to publish as a Google Business Profile post or as content on your own website.

    Keeps Public Information Accurate

Google says Ask Maps draws on Maps information about places, reviews and contributor insights, and can also use information from the web; it does not publish how individual sources are weighted. We recommend maintaining an accurate FAQ set because it makes your published content more useful, not as a confirmed Ask Maps input.

    One Definitive Set of Answers

Without a maintained FAQ set, the same questions get answered differently by whoever picks up the phone. Keep one approved answer per question and reuse it across posts, your website and your staff.

    Builds Customer Confidence

Potential customers decide on the details. Clear, professional answers to common questions reduce friction wherever you publish them.

Example: FAQs That Answer Real Customer Questions

Start from the questions your customers actually ask, then publish the approved answers as posts and website content.
