What actually goes wrong across a franchise estate

The problem in a multi-unit network is rarely one bad profile. It's forty profiles slowly falling out of step with each other and with the brand.

    Information drifts between units

One unit updates its hours, three don't. Descriptions get rewritten locally. Over time the estate stops looking like one brand, and head office has no way of spotting it.

    One number, forty listings

Franchise networks often share a central booking or support number. When it changes, someone has to open every profile in turn — or the calls stop arriving.

    Holiday hours across the estate

Bank holidays, seasonal trading and shutdown weeks apply to most units at once, but Google needs them entered per profile.

No idea which units are actually visible

Two units can share the same brand, categories and content, and still rank completely differently in their own towns. Without per-unit tracking you're guessing.

Google reports that 96% of customers are more likely to visit a business that displays its opening hours, and that complete profiles are associated with substantially more clicks — which is why hour and detail drift across units matters commercially, not just cosmetically.

    How we source completeness claims

    Bulk Management

One profile as the single source of truth

Choose the unit that holds the correct value for a field, and push it to as many other units as you like. No spreadsheets, no logging into Google forty times, no wondering whether it saved.

    1

    Pick the source profile

Select the unit whose value is correct — usually your flagship or head-office listing.

    2

Compare every unit at a glance

A side-by-side table shows what each profile currently holds for that field, so you can see exactly what will change.

    3

    Select the units to update

Search and tick the units you want. Anything with a genuine local exception simply stays unticked.

    4

    Confirm and push

A final confirmation shows the change and the count. Updates go through Google's official API, throttled inside Google's rate limits, retrying transient failures and reporting per-unit results.

    Push in bulk

    • Business name
    • Business description
    • Phone number
    • Website URL
    • Business hours
    • Additional hours
    • Services
    • Chat settings

    Push with extra confirmation

    • Address
    • Map coordinates
    • Service area
    • Special hours

These change where and how a unit appears, so GBPly asks you to confirm deliberately.

    Deliberately not bulk-pushed

    • Categories
    • Posts
    • Photos
    • Reviews and replies

Categories change how Google classifies a unit, and content should stay local to the site it belongs to.

What comes from Google and what comes from GBPly

What that looks like in practice

Four jobs that eat a day of somebody's week in a growing network, and take minutes here.

    The central number changes

Pick the unit that already has the new number, select every other unit in the estate, push. One review screen, one confirmation, one job — instead of opening forty profiles in Google.

    Bank holiday trading hours

Set special hours on one profile, then push them to the units that follow the same calendar. Units with local exceptions are simply left unselected.

A new service line goes brand-wide

Add the service once on your source-of-truth profile and roll it out across the estate so every unit lists the same offer in the same words.

A rebrand or new positioning statement

Update the business description centrally and apply it everywhere, so the brand story reads the same whichever unit a customer finds first.

    Per-unit visibility

See how each unit ranks in its own territory

Two units in the same network rarely perform the same. Google's local results are influenced by relevance, distance and prominence, so the same brand can dominate one town and be invisible two postcodes over.

    Keyword Rank Tracker

Colour-coded grid heatmaps show where a unit appears for your key search terms across its catchment, point by point — not one national average.

    Rank Replay

Play a unit's grid results back over time to show head office or a franchisee how its visibility has moved since work started.

Brand consistency, without taking control off your franchisees

Franchisees still need to run their own location. Head office still needs the brand to hold together. Roles, workspaces and change monitoring let both happen.

    Profile Guard on every unit

GBPly watches each profile for changes it didn't make — Google edits, franchisee edits, public suggestions — and alerts you so unwanted changes can be reverted.

    Workspaces per region or brand

Group units into workspaces by region, brand or master franchise. Profiles, team members and billing stay separated as the network grows.

Roles for franchisees and head office

Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer roles mean a franchisee can work on their own unit without touching anyone else's — and without sharing Google credentials.

    Multiple Google accounts, one login

Units are often held under different Google accounts across a network. Connect all of them to a single GBPly login and manage them side by side.

Reviews, content and reporting at estate scale

Bulk updates keep the facts right. These keep the estate active and accountable.

    Every review in one feed

Reviews from every unit land in a single feed with AI-suggested replies you approve. Nothing sits unanswered because it belonged to a unit nobody was watching.

    Posts per unit, planned centrally

Schedule posts across units from one calendar. The AI Content Wizard reads each unit's own website so the copy sounds local rather than templated.

    Compare units side by side

Views, calls, direction requests, website clicks and search terms per unit, so you can see which locations need attention and which are carrying the network.

Reports head office and franchisees both accept

Shareable and printable performance reports per unit or per workspace, built on Google's own performance data.

    Which numbers are Google's

    Who this is built for

    Franchisors

Protect brand accuracy across the network and give franchisees a tool instead of a policy document.

    Master franchisees

Run a territory of units with its own workspace, team access and reporting.

    Multi-unit franchisees

Own five or fifteen units? Update them together and track each one's local visibility separately.

    Dealer and branch networks

Not a franchise in the legal sense, but the same problem: many locations, one brand, shared central details.

    Franchise Google Business Profile questions

Can one platform update multiple Google Business Profiles at once?
Yes. In GBPly you choose one profile as the source of truth for a field, review a side-by-side table showing what every other profile currently holds, select the units you want to change, and confirm. Updates are sent through Google's official Business Profile API, throttled to stay inside Google's rate limits, with automatic retries on transient failures.
Which fields can be updated in bulk?
Business name, description, phone number, website, business hours, additional hours, services and chat settings are treated as safe to push. Address, map coordinates, service area and special hours can also be pushed but are flagged as cautious and need an explicit extra confirmation, because getting them wrong affects where a unit appears. Categories, posts, photos and reviews are deliberately excluded from bulk pushes — categories change how Google classifies a unit, and content should stay local.
How should a franchise manage multiple Google Business Profiles?
Keep one profile as the reference for anything brand-level — name format, description, central phone number, website structure, core services — and push changes from it. Leave anything genuinely local to the unit: local hours exceptions, photos of that site, review replies, and posts about local events. Then track each unit's visibility separately, because a shared brand does not mean shared rankings.
Does every franchise unit need its own Google Business Profile?
Every location that customers can visit or that serves a distinct area needs its own profile — that is how Google shows the nearest unit to a searcher. A single profile cannot rank in multiple towns.
Won't identical information across units count as duplicate content?
Brand-level facts being consistent is exactly what Google asks for — accurate, matching information across your locations. What should differ per unit is the local detail: photos, review replies, posts, and any hours or services that genuinely vary.
Who owns the Google account — franchisor or franchisee?
That is a commercial decision for your network, and GBPly works either way. You can connect franchisor-held accounts, franchisee-held accounts, or a mix, and each connection can be revoked from Google at any time. GBPly never asks for a Google password; access is granted through Google's own secure sign-in.
What happens if a franchisee changes something back?
Profile Guard flags the change and shows you what was altered, so head office can decide whether to accept it or revert. You get a record rather than a surprise months later.
How is it priced for a network of locations?
Plans are based on the number of profiles you manage, so cost scales with the size of the estate rather than per seat. See the pricing page for current plans and profile allowances.
