GBP Expert Tells You Exactly What to Fix on Your Google Business Profile

It's the page you open first. GBP Expert scores your profile on completeness, lists everything that's outstanding or gone stale in priority order, and lets you fix each item on the spot — pushed straight to Google. No guesswork about what to do next.

Profiles Drift, and Google Never Sends a Reminder

An incomplete Google Business Profile doesn't break. It just quietly underperforms — and because there's no warning, most owners have no idea which parts are missing or how long the content has been sitting there untouched.

You filled it in once and never went back

Categories, services, attributes and the business description get set during setup and then forgotten. Google keeps adding fields, and nobody tells you which ones you left empty.

    Your content quietly goes stale

No new photos for three months. No posts since spring. Reviews sitting without a reply. None of it errors — it just slowly stops working for you.

Advice is generic, your profile isn't

Checklists online don't know whether you're a storefront, a service-area business or both, so half the advice doesn't apply and you can't tell which half.

    Nobody's watching verification

If Google stops treating the profile as verified, edits may never appear publicly — and you'd have no reason to look until customers see the wrong information.

What GBP Expert Checks on Every Profile

Six areas, all in one checklist, with incomplete sections sorted to the top.

    Verification

Read live from Google's Voice of Merchant state. If the profile isn't verified, that task is pinned to the top with the right next step, because nothing else pays off until it's resolved.

    Basic information

Business name, description, primary and additional categories, phone, website and chat/text messaging settings — each one clickable and editable in place.

    Location & hours

Address or service areas depending on your business type, regular hours, special hours, 'more hours' such as delivery or takeaway, and the map pin itself.

    Products & services

Flags a thin or empty services list and helps you build it out, so people searching for what you actually do can match you to it.

    Reviews

Shows whether you've received a review recently and whether you've replied, so review activity stops being a thing you only remember when a bad one lands.

    Content freshness

Tracks whether a photo and a post have gone out in the last 30 days. Stale content shows up as outstanding work, not as silence.

    How the Completeness Score Works

A single number that reflects priority, not just how many boxes are ticked.

    • Every checklist item is weighted High (10 points), Medium (5) or Low (2).
    • Your score is the share of available weight the profile has earned.
    • Items that don't apply to your business type are left out of the total, not counted against you.
    • Unverified profiles pin verification tasks to the top, because the rest can't pay off until that's fixed.
    • Completed items keep their priority badge, shown in green, so progress stays visible.

To be clear about what the score is: those weights are GBPly's own prioritisation of effort versus likely benefit. They are not Google's ranking factor weights — Google does not publish those — and completing every item does not guarantee a ranking change.

Why Completeness Is Worth the Effort

    7x

more clicks for businesses with complete Business Profiles, and 5x more views for profiles that are regularly updated, according to Google's own 2026 playbook figures. These describe an association with engagement — Google does not publish them as ranking weights.

Google-confirmedGoogle — Business Profile Best Practices Playbook (2026)

    96%

of customers are more likely to visit a business that displays its opening hours, per the same Google playbook — which is why hours, special hours and 'more hours' are high-priority items in GBP Expert.

    3 factors

Google names for local results — relevance, distance and prominence — while stating it does not publish the weighting behind them. GBP Expert's High/Medium/Low priorities are GBPly's judgement of effort versus likely benefit, not Google's weights.

    Inside GBP Expert

Scoring, guidance, editing and reminders in one place.

    A live, weighted score

Every checklist item is weighted High (10), Medium (5) or Low (2), and your score is the share of available weight you've earned. An unfinished high-priority item costs you more than a low one, so the number tells you where to spend your time.

A checklist that adapts to you

GBP Expert works out whether you're a Storefront, Service Area or Hybrid business and checks you against the right things — service areas instead of a shopfront address, for example.

Fix it where you found it

Click any item and edit it there. Changes go straight to your Google Business Profile through the API — no bouncing between tabs, no hunting for the right screen in Google's interface.

    Reminders for what's slipped

Photos, posts, reviews and replies are checked on recency, so the page shows what you haven't done lately as well as what you never did.

    Website scan and services summary

GBP Expert crawls your website and summarises what the business actually sells. You can review or edit it, and re-analyse after a redesign — and that summary is what the AI post and description writing then works from.

    Built for AI search too

Your Business Profile now feeds Gemini, AI Overviews and Ask Maps. Accurate categories, structured attributes, fresh photos and consistent contact details shape how AI describes your business, not just how Google ranks it.

Keeping the Profile Current, Not Just Complete

Completeness is a one-off job. Freshness isn't — so GBP Expert treats photos, posts, reviews and replies as recurring items and shows them as outstanding when they've gone quiet.

    42%

more direction requests on Google Maps and 35% more website clicks for businesses that add photos, per Google's 2026 playbook — an association with customer actions, not a stated ranking factor.

    Weekly

is the posting cadence Google recommends, mixing Updates, Events and Offers. GBP Expert flags a profile with no post in the last 30 days so the cadence doesn't quietly lapse.

    What That Means for You

    One page to open

GBP Expert is the hub. Open it and the outstanding work is listed in priority order — no deciding what to do next, no wondering if you've missed something.

    Nothing gets forgotten

Empty fields and stale content both surface in the same place, so the profile doesn't drift back downhill three months after you tidied it.

    Expertise without the expertise

You don't need to know Google's documentation. The checklist is the brief — work down it and you're doing what Google asks profiles to do.

    More chance of showing up

Google says complete, accurate information helps a profile appear in more relevant searches. Doing the work on this list is how you get there.

    For Agencies

A Standard Process for Every Client Profile

GBP Expert turns profile optimisation into a documented, repeatable workflow you can hand to anyone on the team — and a score you can report on month after month.

    A repeatable onboarding process

Every new client starts the same way: open GBP Expert, clear the high-priority items, then move on. No senior person needed to decide what matters.

    Before-and-after you can show

A weighted completeness score gives you a consistent number to report against, plus a visible list of the work completed on the profile.

    Consistent across every location

The same checklist runs on every profile in the workspace, so standards don't depend on which team member picked up the account.

    Your account setup checked too

On agency plans, GBP Expert also tracks your own setup tasks — portal branding, email and SMS sender, client access, automations and portal sections — and each one can be dismissed when it doesn't apply.

    GBP Expert FAQs

    What is GBP Expert?
GBP Expert is the guided checklist inside GBPly for a single Google Business Profile. It scores the profile on completeness, lists what's outstanding in priority order, lets you fix each item in place, and reminds you when photos, posts, reviews or replies have gone stale.
How is the completeness score calculated?
Each checklist item is weighted High (10), Medium (5) or Low (2), and the score is the share of available weight the profile has earned. Items that don't apply to your business type are excluded rather than counted against you. Those weights are GBPly's own prioritisation of effort versus likely benefit — they are not Google's ranking factor weights, and Google does not publish those.
Will completing every item improve my rankings?
There's no guarantee. Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence, and that complete and accurate information helps a profile appear in more relevant searches — but it doesn't publish the weighting. GBP Expert makes sure you've done what Google asks of a profile; it can't promise a position.
Does GBP Expert edit my Google profile directly?
Yes. Items are edited inside GBPly and pushed to your Business Profile through Google's API, including hours, categories, services, description, map pin, service areas and chat settings. Some changes take a few minutes to appear on Google.
What does the website scan do?
GBP Expert crawls the website on the profile and produces a summary of what the business sells. You can edit it or trigger a fresh crawl at any time. That summary then grounds GBPly's AI post and description writing, so generated content reflects your actual services.
Does it work for service-area businesses?
Yes. GBP Expert detects whether the profile is a Storefront, Service Area or Hybrid business and checks the right fields for that type — service areas rather than a customer-facing address, for example.
Is GBP Expert included in every plan?
Yes. GBP Expert is part of every GBPly plan for every connected profile. Agency plans additionally get the agency setup tasks section.
