GBPly - Google Business Profile management software

A BrightLocal alternative built around Google Business Profile work

BrightLocal has been the default local SEO suite for agencies for over a decade, and it earns that position on citations, audits and reputation tooling. What sends people looking for a BrightLocal alternative is usually narrower: they want the day-to-day Google Business Profile work — hours, attributes, posts, photos, reviews, grid rankings, client reporting — to be the product rather than one module inside a broad suite with paid add-ons layered on top.

GBPly is that narrower product. It connects to the official Google Business Profile API and does one job in depth: keeping profiles complete, published, protected and measurable, with an unbranded client portal so your clients do their own approvals and uploads.

    What BrightLocal genuinely does well

We will not pretend BrightLocal is missing things it documents. If you are choosing between the two, here is what it brings that you should weigh honestly.

    • Citation building and citation audits across a large directory network — a category BrightLocal effectively defined and one GBPly does not compete in at all.
    • Local search audits and a well-established rank tracker with client-ready reporting.
    • Reputation Manager sends review requests by email and SMS, generates branded QR codes and runs drip campaigns.
    • Review widgets for your site in list, carousel and JSON-feed formats, with auto-select and filtering options.
    • AI-assisted review responses with templates and auto-reply rules.
    • Active Sync, a paid add-on, pushes NAP, categories, hours, description and attributes to Google and flags third-party edits for approval or rejection.

How GBPly is different from BrightLocal

The comparison is about packaging and depth, not presence or absence. Two products can list the same feature and mean very different things by it.

Hours, attributes and edit protection are core, not an add-on

In BrightLocal, pushing hours and attributes to Google and approving or rejecting third-party edits lives in the paid Active Sync add-on. In GBPly, direct field editing and Profile Guard — side-by-side diffs of every unauthorised change with one-click revert and an audit trail — are part of every plan.

AI content grounded in the client's own website

GBPly crawls the business website before generating anything, so posts and review replies use the client's real services, suburbs and wording. Every publish then passes a policy gate built from Google's content rules — no phone-number stuffing, no invented URLs, blocked drafts held as flagged instead of silently rejected by Google.

Rank Replay, not just a grid snapshot

Grid scans are saved and replayed as an animated ranking history you can scrub, speed up, export as a GIF and drop into a client portal — with profile changes marked on the timeline so you can show what caused a movement.

A client portal your clients actually log into

BrightLocal's white-label reporting hands clients a dashboard URL. GBPly's portal is a working surface: clients approve posts, upload photos, read reviews and submit customer contacts under your branding, with reminder emails that list only their outstanding tasks.

Your own email and SMS infrastructure

On Agency plans, review requests and client emails send through your own SMTP, OAuth, SendGrid, Mailgun, SES, Postmark, Brevo or Resend account, and SMS through your own Twilio, Vonage, Sinch or Infobip account — so deliverability and sender reputation stay yours.

Priced per profile, month to month

GBPly bills $39 or $69 per profile per month depending on the tier, so a single-location client costs a single-location price. There is no bundled location count to grow into and no add-on stack to price separately.

GBPly vs BrightLocal: the rows that matter

The same audited data as our full comparison matrix, narrowed to the capabilities people weigh when they look for a BrightLocal alternative. Where BrightLocal charges separately for something we mark it as a paid add-on, and where we could not substantiate a capability from their own material we mark it "not documented publicly" rather than claiming it is missing.

What it costs, and what changes about how you buy

BrightLocal publishes tiered plans with a bundled location count, then prices Active Sync and citation work separately per location. That model works well when you are running a broad local SEO programme across a stable client base, and less well when you have a handful of profiles or when clients come and go.

GBPly prices per profile with monthly or annual billing, and the capabilities agencies usually treat as add-ons elsewhere — edit protection, grid tracking with Rank Replay, the white-label portal, custom email and SMS senders — sit inside a plan tier rather than on a separate line.

Check BrightLocal's current pricing page before you decide: both products change their packaging, and we would rather you compare live numbers than trust a figure typed on our site.

    Business — $39/month per profile

One profile, 200 review request emails and 200 AI credits a month. Business x10 covers up to 10 profiles.

    Agency — $69/month per profile

Unlimited review request emails and AI credits, the white-label client portal, custom email and SMS connectors and agency branding. Agency x10 covers up to 10 profiles.

Monthly or annual billing, no long-term contract, and a free trial on paid plans. See the full plan breakdown.

When BrightLocal is still the right choice

If citations are central to what you sell, stay with BrightLocal. Citation discovery, building and cleanup across a wide directory network is genuinely their strength and GBPly does not do it — we would be doing you a disservice by implying otherwise.

The same applies if your deliverable is a broad local SEO audit rather than ongoing profile operations, or if your reporting has been standardised on BrightLocal templates that clients already recognise.

Plenty of agencies run both: BrightLocal for citations and audits, GBPly for the weekly profile work, posting, reviews and the client-facing portal.

    Switching from BrightLocal to GBPly

Setup is a Google sign-in. Connect the Google account that manages the profiles, pick which locations to bring in, and GBPly syncs the current profile data, reviews and performance history straight from the Google Business Profile API — nothing to import by hand and nothing to re-key.

You can link multiple Google accounts and split them across workspaces, which is how most agencies separate clients. Branding, portal settings and reminder schedules are set per workspace, so a new client is configured once rather than per feature.

There is no data lock-in. Every account can export its data as JSON from the dashboard and request full deletion, and you can keep BrightLocal running in parallel through the trial while you compare grid scans and reports side by side.

    BrightLocal alternative: common questions

Is there a cheaper alternative to BrightLocal?
GBPly starts at $39 per profile per month for Business and $69 per profile per month for Agency, billed monthly or annually with no contract. Whether that is cheaper than BrightLocal depends entirely on how many locations you manage and which add-ons you currently pay for — compare against your actual invoice rather than the headline plan price, since Active Sync and citation work are priced per location on top.
Does GBPly do citation building like BrightLocal?
No. GBPly is Google Business Profile only by design. If citations across directories are part of your service, keep a citation tool — many of our agency customers use Whitespark or BrightLocal for citations alongside GBPly for profile operations.
Does BrightLocal really lack hours editing and change protection?
No, and we will not claim it does. BrightLocal pushes hours, categories, attributes and descriptions to Google and flags third-party edits through its Active Sync add-on. The difference is that it is a paid add-on there, while direct field editing and Profile Guard are part of every GBPly plan.
Which is better for an agency managing client profiles?
If your work is recurring Google Business Profile management — posting, reviews, grid reporting and client sign-off — GBPly is built for that shape of work, with workspaces, team roles, a white-label client portal, agency branding on reports and your own email and SMS senders. If your work is broader local SEO auditing and citation cleanup, BrightLocal covers more ground.
Can I white-label GBPly for my clients?
Yes, on Agency plans. Reports and the client portal carry your agency name, logo and colours with no GBPly branding, the portal is served from a neutral unbranded domain, and client emails send from your own domain through your email connector.
Can I keep BrightLocal while I trial GBPly?
Yes. Both tools read from the Google Business Profile API, so running them side by side during a trial causes no conflict. Just avoid editing the same field in both places at once, so you can tell which tool published what.
