GBPly - Google Business Profile management software

A Whitespark alternative for the day-to-day profile work

Whitespark is a research and measurement company at heart. Local Citation Finder is the reference tool for citation opportunities, its Local Rank Tracker has been trusted for years, and Reputation Builder does real review collection. People searching for a Whitespark alternative are usually not unhappy with any of that — they want something that does the operational work between audits: publishing posts, uploading photos, editing profile fields, chasing reviews and showing a client what changed.

GBPly is built for that loop. It connects to the official Google Business Profile API and treats profile operations as the product, with an unbranded client portal so clients approve content and upload photos themselves.

Where Whitespark is hard to beat

This is a case where the honest comparison helps you more than a sales pitch, because the two products overlap less than the category suggests.

    • Local Citation Finder remains the benchmark for discovering citation and link opportunities in a market.
    • Local Rank Tracker offers local grids and client-ready ranking reports with a long track record.
    • Reputation Builder sends review requests by email and SMS and provides review widgets and badges for your site.
    • Their GBP management service includes bulk location edits, useful for larger multi-location cleanups.
    • Whitespark's published research and local search expertise is a genuine asset — their guidance shapes how the industry works.

How GBPly is different from Whitespark

Think of Whitespark as the research and measurement layer, and GBPly as the layer that acts on it week after week.

    Publishing is a first-class workflow

Posts, offers and events are scheduled on a calendar, imported in bulk from CSV, generated as a month-long content plan in one click, and checked against Google's content policy before they publish. Photos and videos are uploaded, categorised and scheduled from the same place.

Direct field editing pushed to Google

Hours, categories, attributes, services, description, service areas, chat settings and the map pin are edited inside GBPly and written to Google through the API, with validation that catches the formatting Google silently rejects.

Profile Guard watches the profile continuously

Unauthorised edits are surfaced with side-by-side diffs, revert in one click and a full audit trail — the sort of thing you notice only when it saves a client's opening hours during a busy weekend.

    Website-grounded AI, not blank-page AI

GBPly crawls the client's site so generated posts and review replies reference their actual services and locations, and refuse to invent URLs. That keeps output usable rather than generic.

Rank Replay on top of the grid

Saved grid scans replay as an animated history with adjustable date ranges and playback speed, profile-change markers on the timeline, GIF export and playback inside the client portal.

A client portal that collects work from clients

Under your branding, clients approve posts, upload the photos you keep asking for, read reviews and submit customer contacts — with automated reminders listing only what is still outstanding. No client account needed.

Where Whitespark charges separately for something we mark it as a paid add-on, and where we could not substantiate a capability from their own material we mark it "not documented publicly" rather than claiming it is missing.

    How the money works out

Whitespark sells tools and services separately — the citation finder, the rank tracker, Reputation Builder and managed GBP work each have their own line. That is a sensible model when you buy research per project, and it means your spend scales with tools rather than locations.

GBPly bills per profile per month: $39 for Business, $69 for Agency, monthly or annually, with no contract. The operational capabilities are inside the tier rather than sold individually, so a client's monthly cost is predictable.

If you currently pay Whitespark for the rank tracker plus review requests, compare that against a single GBPly profile price — and remember GBPly adds nothing for citations, so a citation budget stays where it is.

    Business — $39/month per profile

One profile, 200 review request emails and 200 AI credits a month. Business x10 covers up to 10 profiles.

    Agency — $69/month per profile

Unlimited review request emails and AI credits, the white-label client portal, custom email and SMS connectors and agency branding. Agency x10 covers up to 10 profiles.

Monthly or annual billing, no long-term contract, and a free trial on paid plans. See the full plan breakdown.

When Whitespark remains the better buy

If your core deliverable is citation and link opportunity research, Whitespark is the better tool, full stop. GBPly does not do citation discovery and has no plans to pretend otherwise.

The same is true for one-off local search audits and for teams whose reporting is already built around Whitespark's rank tracking history — moving years of tracked history for the sake of consolidation is rarely worth it.

The most common outcome we see is not a switch at all: Whitespark for citations and research, GBPly for the weekly operations and client-facing portal.

Adding GBPly alongside or instead of Whitespark

Connect the Google account that manages the profiles and choose the locations to bring in. Current profile fields, reviews and performance history sync from Google directly, so there is no data migration step and nothing to export from Whitespark.

Grid tracking starts from the day you set up a scan, so if you rely on historical ranking charts, run both trackers in parallel for a few weeks before you retire anything. GBPly's grid bounds come from the map viewport, so you can match the area your existing reports cover.

Workspaces separate clients, branding and connectors, and every account can export its own data as JSON at any time — no lock-in either direction.

    Whitespark alternative: common questions

Is GBPly a replacement for Whitespark?
Only partly, and we would rather be straight about it. GBPly replaces the profile operations and rank tracking side, but not citation discovery or citation building. If citations matter to your service, keep Whitespark and use GBPly for the operational work.
Does GBPly do citation building or citation audits?
No. GBPly works exclusively with the Google Business Profile API. Directory citations are outside its scope.
How does GBPly's grid tracking compare with Whitespark's Local Rank Tracker?
Both plot rankings across a geographic grid. GBPly adds Rank Replay: saved scans play back as an animated history with date-range and speed controls, markers for profile changes, GIF export and playback inside the white-label client portal. Whitespark's advantage is the length of ranking history you may already have accumulated.
Can my clients log in and do their own uploads?
Yes. On Agency plans the client portal lets clients approve posts, upload photos, read reviews and submit customer contacts under your branding, without creating an account. Automated reminder emails list only the tasks still outstanding.
Does GBPly send review requests by SMS?
Yes — by email and SMS, plus QR code flyers and a website review widget. Agency workspaces can route SMS through their own Twilio, Vonage, Sinch or Infobip account and email through their own sending domain.
Can I use both tools without them conflicting?
Yes. Both read from Google's API rather than holding your profile hostage. Avoid editing the same field in both tools at the same time and you will have no trouble running them together.
